Lady Ram Parents,
I got the following message from our Associate Principal Katy VanCuren today and wanted to pass along this opportunity. Please contact her if you or someone you know would be interested in STRIVE.
For 10 years RHS and Rockford Rotary have partnered together to support a mentorship program called STRIVE. STRIVE stands for Students Taking a Renewed Interest in the Value of Education. It is a program designed to work with seniors in the bottom 1/3rd of their graduating class and work with them on the ultimate goal of graduation. Perhaps equally as important is helping them discover hidden talents and interests and give them the emotional support to start planning life beyond RHS.
In the ten years I have been involved with the program we have a 100% graduation rate of our STRIVE students. Better yet, I am proud of the work the group also commits to in the community through various community service projects throughout the year. Friendships is also a byproduct of the mentorship. I have many students who keep in touch with mentors and even invite them to weddings down the line.
It is truly a rich experience for both the student as well as the mentor.
Now the reason I write to you…. We are in need of more mentors to support the students who have signed up for the program. I currently still need 1 male and 2 female mentors. These students signed up on their own. Their parents didn’t do it for them! I hate to turn anyone away so PLEASE consider mentoring a RHS senior. I promise you, it is a rewarding experience.
Feel free to forward this to a friend who you think might be interested. Our first event is Sept. 7th.
